    Post RAM problem

I tired adding more RAM to a Gateway System. It had 64MB of PC100, and I wanted to add 256MB of PC133. There are a total of 3 bays, and one was already used up. I added the 256 and when trying to restart, nothing happend. I tried just the 256, and switching around, and then even back to just the 64 by itself, and nothing. It just beeps when I start up. HELP!!!!!!! I have no idea what else to do. Clearing CMOS? I even tried other ram, 64MB of PC100, everything imagineable. Any ideas?

If your sure it's the ram, then try cleaning the contacts with rubbing alchool. Now, you mentioned beeps..... What sequence?

check your connections on everything else maybe you bumped things when changing ram around.
I hope that someday we will be able to put away our fears and prejudices and just laugh at people.

    the beeps go: 1, 8, then about 2 seconds later, 2, 1.

(the # means how many beeps, obviously)

When I take out the RAM, there are no beeps. So I am pretty sure it is the RAM, and I did check other things.

If I remember, there should be a BIOS recovery jumper somewhere. Try to find it and do the recovery.

I have tried recovering the BIOS. I took the jumper out, which is what I am supposed to do. When I start up, it beeps every second or so. I let it do that for a while, then turned off, put the jumper back on, and tried, and still nothing. Am I supposed to wait till it stops beeping during the recovery?
