Another tough question
Who wants to provide the technical explanation behind the 'Degauss' button?
Hard work often pays off in the long run, but Lazyness always pays off now.

Ok, here goes. The Degauss button is attached to a Degauss circuit that is also attached to a degauss coil. This coil wraps around the picture tub. Also in this Degauss circuit is a thermistor. When activated the Coil is attached to an Ac current, that resets the Magnetic Polaratly back to 0 for the tube, with help from the heat from the thermistor.
I could be a little off but thats the gist of it all.

Not bad, I think I understand it. Why do you want to reset the magnetic polarity though, just to preserve image sharpness?

Have ya ever stuck a magnet to a screen??? It Discolors the pixels, as the tube gains any polarity, this is what happens, so the degauss button just resets the magnetic polarity, not so much as a sharper picture, just the right colored picture.

so really what is happening is the monitor lets out a big EMP? A magnetic Belch? The EMP thing was kinda a joke, but the magnetic belch thing wasn't really.
May you live in Interesting Times.
