What's the best chipset to run your TBird.?
An which modo..?? Need advise.

i always run all my athlons on a via mvp3 chipset. I find biostar to make the most reliable motherboards, next to pine.


jyst kidding. at this point I think the amd 760mp is a suberb chipset if you afford it. next to that, the via kt133a it still a good performer with good stability, even thought it is getting a little dated. I will see what happens with the nvidia nForce too...

So i'm thinking of getting a mobo with a AMD760 chipset, is this the best of the best comparing with other chipsets..? and which mobo manufacturer should i choose.?

I have a Gigabyte board with the AMD 760 Chipset and it runs great. I had no problems setting it up and it overclocks like a dream.

I only use the Abit KT7A or the KT7A-RAID board in the computers I build for friends and family. no problems and seem to perform great. good features and arent that much higher than the cheaper boards.

ASUS A7M 266 is a motherboard in a class of its own. THIS MOTHERBOARD IS BEST!!!! Take it from me, I've tried nearly all the socket a motherboards over the past few months.

Hey but.. i thought there were heaps of problems associated with the ASUS A7M 266 motherboard!

I thought that it is worse than others.. plz gimme a detailed explanation plus comparisons to the others!

And what motherboard is the best for an AMD Thunderbird 1.4GHZ?

Agreed. Use GB boards w/ AMD's all the time. No problems. Either w/ the AMD chipset or Via chipset, they both are very solid. When I have a problem, I'll try something else! Until then, I'm hooked on GB.

I just ordered an Abit KT7A. I had no need for the RAID. Anyways, if you look online, any one of 10 different boards have won an award for the best kt133a board. Speaking of, the KT133A chipset is getting kind of old, but in performance, it's still close to the top. Once the DDR performance matures a bit, the 760 will be great.

I'm currently using the Asus A7V-133. I've been running it for several months now and is quite stable. I am running it with a Thunderbird 900MHz. The KT133 and KT133A chipsets are very mature at this point and quite stable. If I were to build a brand new machine at the moment I would look at the 760MP. I start drueling at the thought of dual Athlon 2GHz system when its available!!! <IMG SRC="smilies/tongue.gif" border="0">

im using a Biostar mobo and despite what some think this is a real good board for tbirds, im usin a 1.2 and its great, its also real good with alot of memory, unless win98 is your primary OS ofcourse
