Angry unformatted or damaged hard drives

i have a lovely dual boot sys with 98 and 2000. not what is with 2000 when is shows the size of a 30 gb hd as 7.** gb and claims its unformatted. 2000 then happily prompts to format it for me. microsoft has addressed the problem when it happens after the installation of sp2. this happened before sp2 though. help

Dude, were you looking for some help? The expected response is going to be,

System configuration? File system, drive useage, SCSI or IDE, does it work in 98...what have you tried so far...

You know, all the basics. If you want answers, you can't invite us to play 20 questions...

Maybe you should try out Partition Magiq. It can be a very useful tool, and I belive it can scan you hd for error and to correct them.

What you need to do is run fdisk from a 9x boot disk. Run "fdisk /mbr" and reboot. You might also want to check the firmware on the HDD. What brand of drive is it???
Don't even ask why they call me stressball....
