    Post Virus Alert

There is a new Virus going aroung Binghamton University, perhaps soon though i predict it will make it outside.

It is a Chernoble variant that affect IDE hard disks only. The infection method is trough VBS, NO DOWNLOAD IS NECESSARY!!! Current solution is the same as the origenal Chernoble, toss it in the garbage and use your SCSI. Luckely it only affects your HDD though unlike the origenal.

Symtoms include unusual slow ups and lock ups along with illegal operations, HDD remains operational.

History is unknown but a copy with an IP has been captured and the origenator will be in custody within 48 hours.

Note: There is no date on it, when you get it it deploys.

Anyone with information is requested to contact me at [email protected]

please contact me, i am swamped with repair requests.

Could a fellow-Mod move this topic to Tech-To-Tech or Virus Alerts forum. Maybe someone there might read it and help.

I hope that someday we will be able to put away our fears and prejudices and just laugh at people.

Are there any SARC or McAfee advisories on this?

Links to information would be helpful.

I posted it here because it is reaking havok over by me and i figured that here is the fastest way to get the word out.

Update on virus: Fdisk the Master boot record seems to buy some time. It also seems to show some relation to the SirCam in a way that people with this virus already had sircam.
