Serial Mouse and COM Port
I can't get Win98 to recongnize my serial mouse. I have a Kensington Scroll mouse that has a serial port adapter. I've also tried a straight, no-frills serial mouse, but the OS still doesn't recognize a mouse. It is an Opti Viper mb with onboard com ports and an onboard parallel port. The com ports and parallel port install fine, but the mouse doesn't. I also have an ISA card with com ports and a parallel port. I've tried disabling the onboard stuff and installing this card, but the mouse still won't be recognized.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

I would remove the ISA card and try to use the onboard COM ports. Once you've verified that works good, go into Device Manager and write down the IRQ/Interrupt values. Then you can try installing the ISA card...but you must check the IRQ/Interrupt switches, if you have them. It is probably just a confict.
Hope this helps you out...Good Luck!

Also boot to Safe Mode and kill all COM ports from device manager and pull the ISA card. Reboot and let windows sort out the onboard ports. If you need the ISA card for the LPT2 then do what Don said, then look on the card for jumpers to disable the COM ports (it's possible <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> - Oh and make sure you don't have a modem or whatever using the rescources for the port you are tryin to run the mouse from.

Try disabling PS/2 mouse support in your BIOS that might get you your mouse, and make sure your modem is not on com1
