happened every time.
My computer's hardware is:

Is this a clean install or an upgrade??. Did it just load the drivers at the start of the installation and hang, or get all the way through and just won't boot up at the end?..

first up, are you doing a clean install or an upgrade?
some installation tips.
(1) try to avoid upgrading over your previous Windows and go for a clean install, ie, full format of your HD.
(2) having the latest BIOS for your mobo would be a good idea. set BIOS settings to default before installing.
(3) install from the CD and not from within your current Win, set your BIOS to boot your CD Rom first.
(4) go for a dual boot system. you will need either 2 HD's or one HD with 2 partitions.
hope that helps.

I've seen the same problem.
Reboot, reformat and reinstall was the solution.
Good luck!
