happens on boot. Right before windows 98 loads.

I went step by step and answered NO to all teh VXD files that load after c:windows\win and it boots, but obviously is missing a bunch of stuff.

Possible Novell or Norton. I've removed NAV in safe mode and am currently trying to get in long enough to re-load the latest Novell Client and then possible win98 over the top of itself which I really hate to do.

I jsut wish i knew what was causing the error so I coul remobve it and be done.

More than likely the antivirus os what is causing the problem but i have seen zone alarm do the same thing, what we used to use all of the time to fix this at tech support was rename the autoexec and config files(this is probably where the memory error is coming from).

Or just boot into safe mode, since you can get into that, and uncheck them in msconfig

I'm currently running 98 setup. I doubt that will work, so when it's done and failed (which i'm sure of) I will do the msconfig thing in safe mode.

this blows. only thing keeping me here today is this stupid 98 system. I should be golfing!!

I don't suppose novell is listed in startup is it? if so, try unchecking that and see what happens

Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."
