It sets up with a dun connectoid where the number dialled is 0 and your user and password is required.

OK lets clarify what exactly your getting.
You IE ADSL interface is showing an internet connection and the lights on the Modem/Router are showing a good connection?
You have set a range of IPs in the IE ADSL Interface for your home network?
You have set a static IP/Subnet/Gateway in your PCs network TCP/IP settings and ticked the show connection box ?
Does it show as per this http://www.farina1.com/amx/frontpage.jpg any connections to the router from the PC?
Does it show a good connection to the internet as per these ?http://www.farina1.com/amx/adslstatus.jpg
http://www.farina1.com/amx/diagnostics.jpg
BTW Not meaning to be simplistic but ........you should enter the user/password in the IE ADSL inteface not on the PC the Modem/Router connects to the internet you connect to the Router.
You Dont need a dial up connection as you are essentially connecting to a LAN connection so you only need a Network connection on the PC.

In the US you set your modem to connect automatically when powered up. Usually by going into the modems setup interface through IE by typing its fixed IP address, something like 192.168.XXX.XXX. Then the modem prompts you for a username and administrator password. Once you"re into the setup of the modem you enter the protocol, for my ISP it's PPPoE/LLC then the virtual circuit IDs. which are 8 for the VPI and 35 for the VCI. Then it asks for the username and password for the ISP. Once all data is entered into the modem and saved, its stored until you hit the reset button. Every time the modem gets powered up it goes through an initiallization process then automatically connects if all said info above has been entered and saved correctly.

I think NooNoo may be confusing it with the USB version [like the BT frog] which uses a dial up connection within windows.
The ADSL Modem /Router is self connecting on reboot or by using the inbuilt interface the PC using a LAN connection.

sorry i've been so sporadic replying.... i have now reached a window in my work so will be able to devote more time to this. io have discovered that I am gettign a connection, but it has nothing to with windows... i have 'show icon when connected' selected but this doesn;t appear. it works with IE and some other apps (Half-life, winmx) but not Outlook Express...
Also, it seems slow. on my last post i got 40kbps but now im getting 75kbps (according to an online speed test). is this becasue i have the modem configured incorrectly? most strange....
As a computer, I find your faith in technology amusing.

check otu this from my web interface vfor the modem. i can guess what it nmight meawn but im nto sure...
but it'll probnably mean something to you guys
ok it;s too big to attach but it says 'Data Rate 588' and '288 kbps.' under adsl status

Sounds like you have 512kbps down and 256kbps upstream. If you're still having problems with bandwidth, contact your Internet Service Provider for the correct settings for your modem. Be sure to be sitting behind your computer while you're speaking with them so you can go step by step with their tech support representative. Another thing you have to consider also is how far you are from their service. If you're riding on the boarder of their "18,000 feet of wire limit"(so I've been told by Sprint), that could be causing your trouble. Or if you are living in an area where there are a lot of people using DSL, that could bog you down too. There's a bunch of variables that could be causing you troubles, but the first thing you should do if you are unsure about the settings for your modem is to contact your ISP. Your ISP can also help you configure Outlook Express, their tech support is there to help you resolve what ever issues you're having with their service.
