Blaster Virus
Had my first dealings with the blaster virus.
I had just finished an upgrade (including format:c, relaod XP Pro).
Then delivered the PC to my friend.
In the time it took to set up his internet, set up email, load his norton antivirus and get half way through MS office we got the first shut down. Damn that was fast, 20 maybe 30 min from fresh install to infected.
One quick little virus.

So you didn't do the updates before delivering it? It can only get the virus if the os is not running the relevant critical updates.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

If you need to access the internet to download the patches on the infected machine and it keeps shutting down you can use this workaround:
Temporarily change the RPC service failure options from "Restart the computer" to "Restart the service".
Start>>ControlPanel>>AdminTools>>Services
right click on RPC service (not the RPC locater) and check the properties
The early bird may get the worm; but the second mouse gets the cheese!

blaster is fast but i got the welchia 13-30 seconds of disconnecting a fresh install from my image network to my business one (company's). Now I got to go: image and remove from network, run patches from usb memory stick, log on to business network. At least until we catch up enough to create new images.
