    Question WAN miniport (ATW) conflict with win XP

    [SIZE=7][COLOR=DarkGreen][FONT=Tahoma]
    I currently have win ME installed on my machine. ( 700 mhz with 526 meg ram, 40 & 20 gig hard drives) I am going to upgrade to Win XP Pro, however, when I ran the upgrade report prior to installation of XP, it said that I have a conflict with "NETWORK ADAPTERS-WAN MINIPORT (ATW)".
    The report said that I must resolve this conflict prior to installation, but how?

    I have downloaded all the driver updates for XP for all the other issues in the report, but I am lost on this one! Any help would sure be appreciated.

    Welcome to WinDrivers turfgal. The wan miniport atw is installed by aol. Uninstall aol, then try the upgrade. HOWEVER, you will be much better off reformatting and doing a clean install. me to xppro is not a particularly stable upgrade path.

    I have the same issue with the WAN miniport and upgrading to XP that turfgal did. Heaven knows uninstalling and re-instsalling AOL is easy enough but will I have the same stability issues with 98se that there are with ME? Do you recommend a clean intall for 98se as well?

    I would.

    Anything with ME must be purged and cleansed before a proper OS can be installed.

    Seriously though - it's always better to start an OS installation from scratch.

    Go ahead and upgrade to Win XP. After you're done upgrading, you will have to re-install AOL. Just choose "upgrade an existing version of AOL".
