Bios Version Questions
Mine said "AMIBios Simple Setup Utility Version 1.21.11"
I don't think this is the bios version. I went to ECS motherboard website at http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/k7s5a_pro.html
and they have 6 different versions. Which one should i choose?
Thanks

What you want in a bios VERSION is the latest one.
But, it has to be the correct bios for the "REVISION" number of your board.
That may be confusing you.
See the note at the top of your link:
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please check the revision of your motherboard found stamped on your motherboard next to the model of you board and check the current BIOS version to assist you in the BIOS file selection before you choose a file.

It said REV 5.0. Does the header "K7S5A Pro PCB 5.0" found on the url means REV 5.0? If so i just need to download version 030811?

Hosed Bios
If you don't know how to hot swap and rewrite crashed bios, leave it alone. I have had to hot swap and rewrite hosed bios half a dozen times on my K7S5A boards.

That indeed is what it looks like.
Have you ever flashed a bios before?
Do you know how to do it?

Boot to C: using a boot-up disk. Have correct bios saved on a 3.5 disk. Using an insulated chip remover, pull bios eprom from the booted board. Replace it with the hosed bios chip. Flash bios to hosed chip. Kill power and replace chips to their respective boards.
The boards do not have to be the same. to perform this process.

That the worst. Nothing that can't be corrected by hot swapping.

Excuse me a moment k5, but why, may I ask are you telling him to do this???
This is a simple bios flash, what makes you think there is a hosed one?
Based on his particular problem and the elimination of other possible causes, and the fact that atodini has remarked that a bios flash would solve the problem since he had the same issue, is why buddha is flashing the bios.
First, buddha, since you have flashed a bios before, don't worry.
Let's try that and see what happens and whether it solves the problem.

To be aware is power. To be knowledgeable is superior.
My last post was preceeded by past questions.
I didn't tell him to do anything. I only advised him regarding his previous post.

Sorry, buddy, but I cannot agree with this your statement... ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
And many of fellow members at these forums knows why I'm saying so... ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Regarding the problem - he should first to make sure, what exactly MB revision he has and only then pick appropriate BIOS image file... MB revision can be found in the top left (or right) corner of the MB... or near model numbers...

I have setup several of these boards and I love them, but they have a recorded history of several problems.
The Cold Boot is the most common and the fixes for it are as random as the cold boot itself. My buddy had the Pro and None Pro versions and both had the Cold Boot error. Mine was not a Pro version and I kept it on almost 8 months straight. No issues and no Capacitor problems which is the second big issue they have.
ECS had a huge amount of bad capacitor batches go out for awhile. The board is so popular though that if you look at the statistics its still a reliable board.
To make a point, none of the above fixes may help, yet again they all might. Just try each one...maybe you will get lucky. My buddy never did, but you never know............:-)
