    partitioning

    hi
    i'd like to partition my hard drive to be able to format each part seperately and transfer my files frm one part to the other. but i've never done it before. i'd appreciate any help and advice.

    step 1: backup all your documents
    step 2: use a program like Partition Magic to resize your current partition and create new one(s)

    Highly recommend Partition Magic.

    You can't partition a single physical drive (say C if it's using the entire drive without wiping out everything on the entire drive. Partition Magic can let you "shrink" the drive with data on it and then create other partitons in the blank space.
    I have used it several times before without data damage, but would recommend backing up before taking this on.
