First notebook buying - Advises
I will buy my first notebook. I am a advanced user for desktop computers, but with limited knowledge for notebook.
I am in Brazil and here, my first option for notebook is DELL, due to excelence service for guarantee (all computers from my company is DELL desktop and a friend notebook).
But I have a doubt. I've seen that they have differents levels of processadors. Basically, they are offering a lower price for Pentiun 4 Celeron 2,40GHZ and 30% for a Pentium M of 1,40ghz.
I don't know much about the M technology. Is it worth to buy a 1,40 M? What the advantages?
I'd like to ask any tips (I know for notebooks, warranty is essencial), but maybe I need to worry about over-heat issues and so on.

Centrino

-Small
-Light
-Long battery life.
P4
-Heavy
-Cheaper
-Large
-Alot of heat issues
-Short battery time battery
U wont notice the difference in both, i havent noticed it between my P42.4 and PentiumM 1.5.
What do u plan to use it for?

I am planning to use for home and work. I understood that even 1ghz less difference, it suggested to get a M technology.
Tks for help.

Not that I have any arguments with what you say, we have both a Dell Insprion 1100 (P4 2.4) and a Dell Inspiron 8600 (M 1.7) and they both get plenty hot on their own... The 1100 seems to last about as long as the 8600 on battery power. Both last around 3 to 3.5 hours in regular use.
Speed wise I see very little difference. The 8600 has better graphics though, and a larger price... + $400.

Centrino every time for me. The accompanying wireless and bluetooth make it very nice... also 5 hours battery life is average.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

The trouble with PentiumM is that since they use so much less battery time, manufacturers are putting in tiny batteries. We have some Gateway P4Ms with itty-bitty batteries that get the same amount of time as the big P4s with big batteries. We also have some Toughbooks with P4M and big honkin batteries that get 5-6 hours. I have to recomend P4M laptops, but try to get one with a nice big battery.
Oh, and as for the difference between P4M and Centrino....to use the Centrino name, they must put an Intel wireless card in the laptop. A Centrino system with a different wireless NIC, or no wireless is a P4M.

I've decided to buy a Compaq Pressario X1015, especially for the Pentium M 1.5ghz, 1024mb DDR memory, HD 80ghz, DVD+RW and ATI 9200 video card of 64mb (1 year total warranty)
It is a good choice? I was unable to find:
memory feature, if 400mhz or lower
HD velocity (rpm)
battery information (how many cells, if 4 or 6 cell primary battery, although I really don't the real difference and advantages).
Does anyone know those information? where I could find it?

One real advantage of a Centrino is that if u often place it on your lap, you will be able to have kids in teh foreseeable future and not lose the vital elements needed for procreation
