Geezer
 ..nonononono!!!!!
Before we go further - a note on 'internet diagnosis' - its REALLY DIFFICULT ! - we can only be as 'smart' as you can describe it - try & be calm with us & we'll do likewise - what you want to do your pc {& possibly us} though 'relieving of frustration' may not be the best thing

Vitual drive s/w may be the culprit, now you've mentioned it, that introduces a proprietry 'burn' driver to your system & very often also replaces a very important file called atapi.sys when installed, I'd suggest that removal of any virtual drive s/w & checking that atapi.sys is digitally signed are probable next steps (replace from your windows cd if it isn't using sfc) ..

Some via chipset drivers will fit on a floppy disk, or span the latest Hyperion onto two disks with PKZip or WinZip and then extract them on your pc and install. No need to wait for internet on yours.

Incorrect Funtion, I've seen this problem on my brother's computer before but I haven't gotten it fixed yet. The drive can still read CDs and DVDs, except certain ones. For those certain DVDs, when I click on the DVD drive in explorer, it would pop up the Incorrect Function message and I wouldn't be able to access the DVD. I've updated the firmware but it hasn't work. I popped the DVD disk into another DVD drive on the same computer and it worked perfectly. I was thinking maybe it was just the drive that couldn't read it.
Brother's Computer DVD drives:
AOpen DVD (older model)
AOPen DVD (next model) (working one)
