Post 98 and XP memory benchmark

I was just curious if anyone has seen any numbers that indicate a significant difference between 256mb vs. 512mb in XP. I know in 98 it was minimal, if any at all, so I was wondering how much things have changed. Thanks

I wouldn't say that I've noticed much difference.
It's almost the same with the previous Windows versions.

Difference is noticed if you are running video-editing software, games and similar stuff. You know, the usual things.

Xp can manage up to 3-4 Gigs of memory if I remember correctly.

With any reasonable amount of memory, it always depends on what you are doing. Once you hit the amount that minimises the use of virtual memory for what is running on the system at the time, more memory doesn't achieve a speed increase. As AlienDyne says, you notice the difference if you start using memory hungry applications. It's not particularly the Operating System that makes the difference in this case.
