MSDOS.SYS File Error at Startup

I am having a problem when booting up that I don’t understand. Seems as though I have had quite a few problems since I replaced my old hard drive with this 20 Gig Seagate although I guess most of them have been minor. I am running Windows 98SE. My hard drive has 5 FAT32 partitions.

I am getting garbled text when I first start up but Windows will load without any intervention from me. The error message is:

“Invalid setting in the MSDOS.SYS file, BootFailSafe=0”

When I open the file this is what I see:

Should I change BootFailSafe to a value of 1?

Well, to solve your pb, just follow below instructions:

- Start your computer into ms-dos mode.
- When prompt appears, just type attrib msdos.sys -r -h -s then press enter.
- Edit msdos.sys
- Once edited, just remove the line BootFailSafe=0 then save the file.
- Reboot your computer.

From now, you will no long see the same error msg.
