Running Shutdown Scripts
I am having an issue with my desktop PC and my laptop. When I try to shutdown they both say "Running Shutdown Scripts" and just sit there.. My laptop actually does shutdown after 4-5 minutes or so but the desktop never does.. I have everything set correctly. Tryed enabling/disabling APM. Clear Pagefile is enabled..
What do I do?!!!

No
No domains... just plain old Windows XP... all home use.

You said it's XP, and said home use, but didn't say XP home, or Pro.
GPEDIT.msc is a part of XP Pro, I can't confirm that it's a part of XP home, but if you go to start/run (or if you want to keep a clear RUNMRU, go to a cmd prompt), then type in gpedit.msc. Then look under "Windows Settings" under both “Computer” and “User” configuration, you will see a Scripts key, and in there is startup and shut down, (again remember to look in both Computer and User Configuration for the same path). See if there's anything scheduled to run at shutdown. Post back with what you find.

Oops...
They are both XP Pro.. they did it before and after SP2 so it's not the issue..
I did as you said and I think I found the problem... my main computer had a shutdown script set to run. however for some reason my puter no longer associates with .BAT files and therefore would not run the shutdown script which was a BAT file.. thanks for the help..
Time to checkout the laptop now
