Write Protection Problem
[FONT=Times New Roman][SIZE=7][COLOR=Black]
This is my first posting so if I mess up I am sorry. I bought a new Dell 4600 Desktop machine which came with a 80Gb Hard Drive. I needed to copy the data over from my older HP so I got an additional 200Gb Western Digital Hard Drive from New Egg. My friend used the program Lifeguard which WD recommended. The problem is after we copied this data over to the drive whenever I try to access any of the programs I am told it is write protected. I am stumped don't know what to do so thought I would ask. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

You won't be able to run programs from the other drive. The programs will have to be reinstalled on your new machine. You should be able to reuse the old location where they were installed. I've never used Western Digital's tools for transfering stuff to a new drive. I've always used ghost for things that wouldn't just copy directly.

I have reinstalled some of the programs but the problem is for instance if I want to access a Word Document from my D drive or music I have in that drive I am always told it is write protected and I can't access it. I tried to copy it to the other drive and ran into the same problem. Thank you

Try right clicking on the document, for example, and choosing properties..see if there is a checkbox in "read only" if there is, remove the checkbox and see if that solves your problem

Seen this before when the old PC was running XP Home or Pro and the the User Profile was password protected or User was using file encryption.
After data was transferred to another drive it was no longer accessible.
Alas we never did figure it out.
Be interested in the solution if one comes up with one.
