driver problems
Hey,
I have some problems with my 'Philips CDRW 1610A'.
Yesterday I formatted my C: but now I can't get my CDRW back to work.
reading CDs works fine but wrighting is the problem. Whenever I run a burning program (I've tried many), I can select everything I want to burn. But when I click the icon to stat burning the program crashes and I have to reboot. By the way I'm using Windows ME.
Any suggestion will be secieved with gratitude!

Welcome to WD forums Fab4 .. should I burst into 'yellow submarine' or 'Elanor Rigby' now ?
So when you reformated did you apply all the patches & such applicable for your motherboard ? - probably you didn't know you ought ! so if not, detail either your motherboard or the pc make & model & I/someone can try & find you the appropriate patches which I think may be your issue (I'm thinking chipset patches required).

Patches for motherboards? This is the first time I heard of that.
anyway I fund the user's manual for my motherboard.
It is called "NB72-SC/SR Rev. A+"
It's a pentium4 - 256Mbyte RAM - ...
Is this anouf to know what patches I need or do you need more details?

Woepsy, I just found a CD with mainboard utilitys.
"Intel INF Update Utility for Windows 98/2000/Me"
I have run it and reinstalled my burning program. But the burning program EasyCdCreator 5.0 (the original program from the CDRW) is still craching when I want to configure the burning options (wrighting speed - # copy's - ...)
Is it possible it is to late to do the intel update now?
If I format my pc again. When do I have to do the Intel update? right after the windows installation?

That's the one .. so methinks if its still crashing, try removing your burning software, re-run the intel inf utility (just in case) & then try adding your software back again (no need for a format for this) - burning software adds its own proprietry driver to do the burning bit & if this isn't 'just so' then you get problems (btw any multiple burning software installed can also be an issue expecially with 'easy cd' as its anything but ! {not my favourite product!} - for now make sure you have only one such product installed - infact I'm tempted to recommend you go & get the free trial of Nero (@ahead software) just to test your set-up - as thats much better at giving meaningful error messages at least & imho is the best general burning package)..

Hey, I just formatted my C again.
and run the Intel utility. (I haddend seen your post yet.)
But the problem remains.
Is it possile it makes a conflect withe my DSL modem 'Alcatel speed touch USB'? Because when I first ran easycdcreator I saw my dsl modem went from green to yellow (=initiallazing).
So I uninstalled my modem & easycdcreator and wanted to try with onely the cdcreator installed. But when I rebooted I got the message (still in DOS before windows started):
"
Windows could not update file %1 starting with %2
%1 %2
"
I'm guessing that can't be good Any idea what that could be?
when I then installed easycdcreator. It kept on craching. I unstalled it again in safe mode and installed my modem again.
And now im downloading Nero 6.6.0.3 . Its going slow. (8KByte/sec.)
