I agree. Hopefully Longhorn will put them to use.

I use a laptop too. It is handy to have. Make sure to have a good insurance policy and any possilbe good passwords or password programs to protect your data and laptop incase of theft. Only issue I have with most laptops is that most don't come with a fast 7200 rpm hd. Mostly a 4800 or 5400 rpm hd. That really lags a laptop. There are faster laptop drives from Hitachi, but very pricey.

I think its 4200rpm. And they work pretty darn fast, simple because the internal connections are fast. Unless you realllllly need it 7200rpm for a notebook is overkill. Toshiba make notebook harddrive too, and Western Digital are getting into it.
My laptop(4200rpm) vs Desktop(7200rpm), big differnce yes, but with a 5400rpm model I'm sure the gap would be much less. Also faster drives, more heat, need more cooling.

Oops, typo on my part. Yes, it is 4200 or 5400 rpm.
The link you provided is not working.
However, the faster 7200 rpm creating more heat is almost a non issue and and same goes for power consumption.
I checked it out here.

One thing I have found with laptops is to take all your requirements and multiply by 2, and order it that way, or better. Post purchase changes are ugly on most laptops!!

Honestly, unless you let us know what the majority of the use of the computer is, it is rather difficult to make suggestions either way.
As for me, I see no reason at all to ever get a laptop. They are too expensive, you can't make as many changes on them to keep them lasting longer, the keyboard is too small, the monitor is too small, you have to use their mouse or attach one, they get hot on your lap, battery has too be watched, yada, yada, yada....
Now don't get me wrong, there are also times and needs that make a laptop invaluable compared to a desktop. Traveling, showing presentations, multiple sites where it is needed and so forth.
So like I said, what is it exactly that you need it for and to do?

Keyboard is just perfect on the widescreen laptops, thus the screen isnt small too, and the touchpad isnt that bad once you get used to it. Even so, I do use a mouse with it, rather than the touchpad. And Centrino notebooks can last a long time, upwards of 3-4 hrs.
Agreed that its better to get a desktop if you dont need a laptop.

Amy make sure it has usb2 and firewire on board rather than through the replicator. Booting a lappie from usb is essential when those damn finicky slimline easily broken cd/dvd drives goes west.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."
