MS Outlook Permissions Problem
Hi,
I have Office XP (2002) installed on a Windows 2000 machine.
I am setting up an email account for a new user. I have limited the user account as I don't want him to be god on the pc. Therefore he is in the users group only.
When I go into Outlook and click "Send/Receive" I receive the following error:
You don't have appropriate permission to perform this operation.
I have tried putting him in the Power Users group but the same result occurs. If I put him in the administrators group then it works OK.
I have checked that he has permission to his .pst file, and also to the relevant Outlook folders located in "Program Files" and the users "Application Data" folders within the users profile, but still no joy.
I have also checked the registry key permissions for:
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Office
Anyone have any ideas.
Cheers
Paul

Is this pc on a domain? If so it may be a group policy problem, if not it may be a local policy problem.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

win2k policies
how to edit local policy
If all else fails, create a new logon profile and import the pst to a new outlook profile.

Registered User
I have had issues before with certain programs not working correctly with restricted user rights. Here is what I did: Start>Run> Regedt32, got to Hkey_current_user >software >Microsoft> Office> Outlook> once Outlook is highlited, click on edit, permissions, select the users name and give them what control you want. You might also want to check the reg key Hkey_local_Machine same way. Hope this helps.
It's not the computers that keep having problems, it's the users!!
