Dlink 514 Timeout? Problems
This is a really really annoying problem. I start my computer that links wirelessly to the router above. And the connection will last a few minutes, but then the net will stop working on my computer. AIM stops, Firefox stops, everything stops working. I have no clue how to get it to work again, except by restarting, but then the problem starts again.
sorry I can't go into more details, but I am typing this at a very fast speed, as to get this post up before the net times out again.
I think its a timeout. Thats the only way i can describe it.
BTW, both comps are XP with SP2.

I'll type fast so you can read this before you get cut off
Seriously - start, run, type in cmd, click ok now type ipconfig /all and look at the wireless nic - what is the lease time listed for dhcp?
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Since we have more than one machine, & the phrase "the connection will last a few minutes" .. if its not the dhcp leases expiring, perhaps this is some master browser issue (is this time about 12 minutes ?), but thats kind of hard to speculate on without a few more details ..
Methinks that if you can disconnect all machines but one & maintain the connection, then that's the issue .

Xp has a "feature" that checks for a stronger connection every 60 seconds. It's a service called "Wireless Zero Configuration" - try disabling this service and see if that helps.
Right click My computer - Manage- Services And Applications- Services - Stop then Disable the Zero Wireless Configuration"

I had the same issue!
This is a problem with some of the 514's with the older firmware- a google search on the model number will reveal other frusterated users. If you have REV A (firmware v1.x), you will be plagued with this constant connect/disconnect problem, even if you upgrade to the latest REV A firmware v1.20 on the D-Link website. I was able to return the router later and got a REV C (firmware v3.x) and it operates perfectly.

I have Rev B. So mtkinf that may be the problem.
Also some details. I have a dynamic IP, one comp connected VIA hardline, two using wireless, ummm, all have SP2, but the same problem happens to all of them. It maybe the router. I tried what, confus-ed said, but it didnt work.
I don't know, anything else I can list that may help?

Update the router firmware and post what the dhcp lease expiry is...

One week (dhcp), and the firmware is up-to-date.

ok, are you using wep, wpa or mac filtering on the wireless? If you are using wep or wpa, try turning it off and use mac filtering instead - does that make a difference?
