    virus??

    hi all, what is smbr.exe?whatever it is it's not letting me do a thing.
    can't run anti-virus,spybot s&d,cws.had no hits on google

    Check that again blink. I don't remember or find anything at all about smbr.exe.
    Also, you may want to do a Hijack This scan and post it in the AV forum.

    thanks tripler i was able to get it to run hjt and it found alexa,bugbot,backd,backorif,smres,stupdgy.also ran cws and spybot s&d.
    now it hangs at the xp welcome screen.

    download Ewida and then run scan.

    Hard to download and run anything on a machine that hangs at the splash screen. Blink, if you are running XP, I would boot off your XP cd and take the option to repair an installation using the recovery console. In the console run chkdsk /r reboot, and see if things are good. Otherwise, post more.

    thanks for the replies.i did run the chkdsk option and it was a no go.i guess i'm going to wipe it.pc was more or less a virus magnet.will checkout that app
    though.
