CD rom driver for Mecer CD956E

Can anyone please assist me with a Win XP driver for a Mecer CD rom, Model: CD 956e. All my searches for this driver result to nothing. The CD ROM refuse to read any CD's however Windows Device manager indicates "device is working properly". Any help please?

XP has its own built-in drivers for CDROM and DVDROM. You shouldn't need any third party driver for it to work. Can you boot from an XP CD? This will confirm if the drive is working.

Download the file and double click on it see if it gives you cd rom support.

The file does an auto fix.

Thanks, No it does not boot from Win Xp CD. The current drivers loaded are: cdrom.sys; redbook.sys & starprop.dll. I believe these might be the default XP drivers you refer to?

Assuming you have the BIOS set to boot from CD first, it seems that your CD drive may have gone to the great scrapheap in the sky
The good news is, it's cheap to replace
