Welcome to WinDrivers:
If you are gonna use that for storing and accessing cooking recipes or maybe a little writing it might be ok.
As always, buyer beware on Ebay or anywhere else online.

It isn't a machine I'd be too eager to have, but it might work for you if it is 1. really cheap, and 2. in good shape. The problem with used notebooks in particular is they normally have little or no warranty, and if repairs are needed, they are very expensive. With a little shopping, you can find very decent new laptops around $500, with warranties. They also have all new parts, new operating systems, usually a fair amount of software, factory support, and so on.
Just on a personal note, I've had many customers who have purchased electronics and computers on Ebay and been disappointed. I'd be very cautious, and shop newegg.com, WalMart, Fry's, etc. before making a decision.

If you buy it, make sure you get the restore cds (all of them) and remember the batteries are usually shot by then. If they don't hand over the restore cds, you will have to replace them... and that can get expensive.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."
