Teacher Faces Jail Over Porno Pop-Ups
Here from today's Washington Post. I think the teacher involved is: a. none too bright and b. the victim of ignorance and folks looking for someone to take a fall for the negligence and poor security policies of the school system. Comments?

Holy rediculous bat-crap! If she gets sentenced, and nothing is done to help her, the world will come to an end on March 2nd. If it doesn't, then there is no justice in the world at all.

Wonder if the ACLU is ever at the right
place at the right time?
Good Find Slgrieb.
Although I hate unions as a whole, this is what they
are all about.
Now is a good time for a teachers union to stand up.
Outlaw computers in school,or we refuse to teach minors.
This is a good signal to a young person to persue a career
that doesn't involve minors.

This situation is way beyond pathetic. I really think American culture is rapidly de-evolving.

This person is supposed to be a teaching professional - she has a responsibility to teach approved subject matter in approved fashion to the students under her tuteledge.
If she didn't have the sense to turn the computer off when that crap appeared, then she deserves a week off without pay for the first offense.
Western society has some kind of weird penchant to 'protect' kids from the very thing their hormones are screaming for - '''SEX'''! Yet, these same protectors of the innocent have purile schoolromm-based lessons in VD, pregnancy and AIDS, just to mention the 'nicer' repercusssions.
Wonder why?

Proper computer forensics on the machine would in fact tell if the images were in a temp area where spyware will put them or it was pictures saved to a specific folder.
In the case of the first, spyware accounts for this all too often and people are left holding the bag.
Isnt it about time to find out who and what the spyware is and go out and hang them?
Any fool can see she was a victim and nothing more.
What an injustice and the schoolboard wont even take the responsibility of missing licensing in 2004? Hello thats 2/3 years ago.
Come on people, someone had it in for this poor sub teacher.

Being an IT person that works for a school district I would have to side with the teacher in this case. Spyware is a huge problem and it is the technology's department to do everything possible to make sure such content does not show up on school's computers. The second part of the article posted later that day stated it could be because the school district did not renew their content filter license. Because I know in our case if something like that were to happen and our content filter was working properly we could pull up a log and find out who went where on that computer. The IT Director should take all the blame and be fired. His comment is that the software vendor failed to send the necessary paperwork to renew the license so in 2+ years he couldn't pick up a phone or send an email to the company. And if they didn't respond there are plenty of content filter companies out there to choose from. I wonder what kind of local spyware/antivirus protection they use (if any) or did that expire too.
I am sure the teacher panicked and hopefully will know next time to just pull the plug on at least the display/monitor and then call for technology help. Unfortunately parents will over react and the school district will have to blame someone and it very well may be that teacher.
