BIOS for Gateway 7330GZ Notebook
Hey all, I have a Gateway 7330GZ notebook that won't recognize hard disks over 80 GB. The factory 80 GB gave up last week and I picked up a 120 GB to replace it.
I have spkoken with Gateway Tech Support and they basically told me they have no BIOS update available. So I figured I would go to the manufacturer of the board to find something - Gateway Tech gave me bogus/disconnected phone numbers for "them". ID'ing the board has been tough - no physical markings on it.
The BIOS screen (on boot-up) does have American Megatrends logos (and Ver. 08.00.09) so I figured I'd start there (chip also says AMIBIOS on it). I used their ID utility and it says it's a Gateway BIOS. I used another utility and found the following info:
BIOS Date: 10/25/05
BIOS Type: American Megatrends licensed to Intel
BIOS ID: 63-0100-000002-00101111-102505-MONTARA-52.01.21
OEM Sign-On:
BIOS Date: 10/25/05 15:51:02 V
Chipset: Intel 3580 rev 2
Superio: Unknown
OS: WinXP SP1
CPU: Mobile Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.06GHz 5.1.2600 Service Pack 1
BIOS ROM In Socket: No
BIOS ROM Size: 512K
Memory Installed: 768 MB
Memory Maximum: Unknown
Memory Slot 01: 0 MB
Memory Slot 02: 0 MB
Memory Slot 03: 512 MB
Memory Slot 04: 256 MB
I'm trying to search on the Montara name but haven't found anything useful.
If anyone has any ideas where to go from here I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Try this search string :
AMI bios MONTARA Intel 3580
edit: had to add this tho - why not just buy an 80Gb drive?
Flashing a bios with a 'maybe' bios upgrade can destroy the working motherboard - just bite the bullet and get a proper sized drive would be my best advice (of course, I am not a tech so take any of my advice with a grain of salt and 2 aspirin and don't call me in the morning).

The local computer store only had the 120 GB in stock - it was supposed to be a quick fix. I think I'll order an 80 and wait. I have flashed a BIOS with a "maybe" upgrade as you called it, didn't end pretty - had to order a new chipset. haha
Thanks again for the input.
