    ram upgrade leads to device problems

    my computer is from ibuypower
    athlon x2 5400+with ddr2 800 dual channel 2gb total occupies only 2 slots
    runs on xp home edition

    i added in ram from old computer it was 2 512mb also dual channel
    for ddr2

    turned on power andsystem couldnt reach operating system
    it was somethign like 'please insert boot device disk or sometihng'

    i took the ram back out and put my xp disk in it after

    only to find the same problem occurs, the xp disk works but can not repair or reinstall windows

    please help

    added 2 512mb ram dual channel ddr2\

    could not accesss boot screen

    boot device disk needed

    took ram out problem was still here

    rebooted and added recovery disk

    could not repair and critical error and needed to shutdown when tried to reinstall xp.

    please help problem still here

    Welcome to Windrivers Osmania. When you signed up you were advised that your first posts may not show up immediately, I have merged the three threads you started since each is slightly different.


    Sounds like you dislodged the cable going to the hard drive or possibly when you tried the ram, the bios reset and the drive is no longer the boot drive, or in the case of SATA drives, the settings have changed from what they were.
    Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."
