PCMCIA USB Printing issue
Windows Locks up when printing to new printer. The old printer uses the same connection and prints without issue. Both are plugged into the same PCMCIA USB 2.0 expansion card.
If I go to the printer properties, click the print test page button the printer starts receiving data (as displayed on the printer lcd) and windows locks up and becomes unresponsive. Can't move mouse, ctrl/alt/del doesn't work. Windows doesn't crash it just locks up. If I remove the PCMCIA card windows unfreezes. I have tried downloading the latest printer drivers, latest motherboard drivers, latest bios updates. The user had initially purchased an Epson printer and was having the same issues so purchased the current Canon printer in hopes that would resolve the issue.
The USB pc card works fine when using a mouse, digital camera, and old printer.
Compaq US3070 laptop.
Windows XP Home edition with service pack 2 and all the latest updates.
4-Port USB 2.0 Host PC Card TU2-H4PC
The onboard USB ports do not work anymore. They have become loose and do not hold a connection.
I have not tried downloading the latest PCMCIA card drivers. (I just realized while typing this post)
Does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions?

Event viewer doesn't log anything in the system or application log when this occurs. No warning, failures, or even information.

'Latest' driver is 2 years old.
Uninstall the printer drivers completely (all printer drivers) and go through the process again for the NEW printer according to the installation instructions.
If you name the printer I can look for similar problems.

I reinstalled the printer drivers and re-downloaded and installed the trendnet drivers. Still locks up.

Interesting thing is if I go into the properties for the printer and choose print alignment it prints out the alignment page. Still won't print test page or from notepad.

This printer is a multifunction device... was the old printer a multifunction too?
Occasionally the usb cable is not good enough - did you replace the usb cable or use the old one?
I have also seen incidents where the usb cable wasn't quite plugged in well enough into the printer... the plastic collar prevents the plug going all the way in.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."
