    Welcome to Windrivers Sparkling Jewel

Could you describe the problem a bit more?
When you say won't stay open, does it just go down to the task bar or does it close completely?
    Is there any error message?
What service pack are you using with XP?
What version internet explorer are you using?
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Try opening it then quickly click file then work offline if it then shuts down open it back up again and look at the send receive options and uncheck shutdown after checking mail.

    Thanks for your post NooNoo,

Outlook Express opens up after clicking on it but closes completely after a couple of seconds. There isn't any error messages. My computer's running XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2. I have a Dell Dimension DM061 Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU 2.80 GHz 2.79 GHz of RAM Physical Address Extension. Dimension E520 on the tower. I'm using IE6 as I had problems with IE7. I can access Outlook Express at my boyfriends house. Thanks Sparkling-Jewel

Thanks for replying futuretech, I have tried what you suggested and Outlook Express won't stay open long enough for me to click onto "file then work offline". It's the same with "send the and receive options" The hour glass icon is still visible instead of the arrow.

If you are connecting using a high speed connection unplug the network cable and then try opening outlook express. With no connection to the Internet it should take quite awhile for it to finally time out and give you an error letting you then force it into work offline mode.

    Thank you JudaZ for repling.
Since I did what futuretech advised Outlook Express will open on the second attempt. At the moment my McAfees Security Centre licence has run out. I don't have the money yet to renew it. I know thats not good. The Outlook Express started before the licence ran out. Thanks Sparkling-Jewel

Have you tried to uninstall McAfees Security Centre?
Could be that McAfee started to think that OE is a suspicious software
after some update of OE of some sort

Also try and start windows in safe-mode with network and see if same thing happens with Outlook express even in that mode

Despite your denial of virus infection, you should now check for viruses and spyware.

You should also check the event viewer and see what errors and warnings are listed

You might consider how many emails you have stored... or that the inbox has corrupted.

You should back up your existing email folder by copying the files to another folder and then when you are sure you have a backup, remove the existing email folder. Reboot and start outlook express... it should create a new identity and files. You can then try and reimport the backed up files which will hopefully clear any corruption as they are imported.

Thanks JudaZ. I have just uninstalled McAfees Secruity Centre. I will see how OE goes now. I'm not good at computer stuff like starting in safe-mode.
I have downloaded AVG antivirus again. Though my son had problems with IE starting. But Windows Live Messenger worked.
