are the updates failing to install?
I have had similar problems but the latest one I actually had to force install the windows update agent
YOu can download that from here
http://download.windowsupdate.com/Wi...gent30-x86.exe
I made a directory in the root of my C drive called WUAgent and dowloaded the file there.
After the file was downloaded I ran the file from a command prompt like so
c:\WUAgent\WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe /wuforce
after that I re-tried windows update and it worked fine.

Away mode... so this is XP Media Centre?
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

I am not sure that will work but it did help on my boss's tablet that after he installed SP3 Windows update would download the updates but the installs would fail. From what you described in your first post the symptoms sounded similar.

On May 22 you had OS Name Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium installed per your other thread ( http://forums.windrivers.com/showthread.php?t=81866 ) and a Windows Update pop-up problem and on this thread you have XP SP3 with the same issue?
edit: I note you said you have Vista HD and an XP HD - so the solution with Vista was a complete new install?

Vista is my primary os and I had XP installed on my other HD for about 3 Months now recently I upgraded to Service Pack 3 and did the bios upgrade for os XP everything went well after a restart XP started reinstalling all the hardware drivers then I got a popup about Automatic Update is turned off. When I started up vista after it finish reinstalling all the drivers I had no problem Only XP

REGSVR32 ATL.DLL
REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL
REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL
Still nothing

Did you get confused about away mode then?

I saw a unknown icon in Device manager so when I did a system error scan with http://driveragent.com the unkown shows up as Away Mode still don't know what that mean. But my most concern is Automatic Update.

It appears you have a mobo that once supported XP Media Centre and now are using XP - some info here;

Exactly CCT - Spawn, away mode is available in Vista and in MCE 2005, but not in XP home or Pro. So we can call "away mode" resolved.
Right click on the task bar and select task manager. Click the processes tab. Is there a process called wuaclt.exe? Or wuauclt.exe?
The first one is a trojan, the second is the process that should be running
You also need to start, run and type in
services.msc
Click OK
Is Background Intelligent Transfer Service running? Disabled? Stopped? Set to Automatic or Manual?
Is the Automatic Updates service running? Disabled? Stopped? Set to Automatic or Manual?
What firewall software are you running?
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."
