Kubuntu 9.04 won't load

I have the latest download of Kubuntu 9.04 installed however when it goes to load into the desktop it hangs and is in a never ending load. I tried Ubuntu 9.04 and it loads, I did a memory and hardware test and all pass. Thing is I can't stand native Ubuntu and prefer Kubuntu since it has some features that work out better for me. Does anyone have any advice on how to get the desktop to load on Kubuntu?

Give me a few days, and maybe I'll narrow down your problem, dude.

See, I use Windows (primary) and Ubuntu 9.04 native version (secondary), so maybe I'll be able to narrow down your problem.

***EDIT: I posted on the Ubuntu forums about this, and when I get a response, I'll link it to here (forum admins here permitting). Link to topic on Ubuntu Forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...10#post7977110 ***

Similar situation here, windows primary, kubuntu secondary. Kubuntu doesn't have an issue with 4gb ram does it?

Some responses on the Ubuntu Forums:

You will find Xubuntu flies in comparison to both, especially on older machines.

A fix would probably be physical as in a new graphics card (or even machine!).

I'm guessing it has something to do with the demanding nature of Kubuntu. I don't know if its a problem with 4gb ram, but since kubuntu is demanding, that may be the problem.

Hope this helps.

NOTE: My computer runs on 4 GB, and normal Ubuntu runs perfectly on it.

It helps only a little, I'll see if I can dig up an external card but it's not that old of a motherboard, it's the same series we put in your tower at home.

Now here's a fun one for you. I had to use a PCI card since I can't use a PCI-e card because I don't have any to spare. Now the computer hated the PCI video cards totally and showed no video. However, now try to figure this out. I grabbed an old Monster 3D II video excellerator out of my ancient artifacts bin that Indiana Jones left me and ran the onboard video through it and it worked! I have no idea why it should work on a device not supported on anything later than Windows 98.

That's interesting, considering that's not the computer using Ubuntu right now.

I've got 4 GB on my Dell Laptop and it seems to work fine. I'll ask there to see if it's the ram causing the problem. Maybe you got an incomplete installer? Happens to me occasionally.

I'm in the process of downloading a Kubuntu ISO, then I'll try and find another hard drive I can use to test this problem. But seeing how I'm not at home, I can't test it out there.

I'll ask them and give them the new information you've just given me. But I'm not sure how much their new information will be helpful.
