JavaCool's little freeware app, Doc Scrubber, will show you much hidden information a word doc contains about itself: who created, who edited it, how long they worked on it, etc. It will also let you reset the info to whatever you want, I think.

I am not sure if it works with the new docx file format or not, though. But you can alway convert back to a .doc and then convert forward again.
It has been handy when I have recycled documentation and then have to hand over the file to the client.
