How Do I Delete Accessories Folder from Desktop?
For some unknown reason, I got the Accessories folder on my desktop. When I try to delete it, I get an error stating:
'Accessories is a windows folder and is required for Windows to run properly. it cannot be deleted.'
I never put this folder on my desktop. I dont know how it ended up there. And just to let you know, I got the same Accessories folder in my start menu. So, how do I remove this folder from my Desktop?

The Accessories entry on the Start sub-menu has accidentally been dragged off onto the desktop, easy enough to do as it's on the top edge of the menu structure. It's a folder of links to all the Accessories entries.
I don't know if there's an official "right" way to deal with it, but this worked for me:
Right-click on the taskbar and choose Properties. On the Start Menu tab, press the Customize button. Click Advanced and in the left pane of the explorer window that pops up, highlight Desktop at the top of the directory tree. The desktop items will be shown in the right pane, and the extra Accessories item can be deleted from here. You'll need to click OK in the dialog confirming to send it to Recycle. If you want to double-check, make sure the Accessories entries on the Start Menu do still work correctly, then it won't matter if the redundant Accessories folder gets deleted from Recycle.

Hi Shark. Since your topic is in the XP forum, I was referencing an XP system. But I guess then your desktop is set to default XP Start Menu? If so, try the procedure again, and on the Start Menu tab, change the radio button to Classic Start Menu and use the Customize button next to it, which will be currently greyed out if the standard Start Menu option is selected. Once you've deleted the folder from the desktop using the Explorer window in Advanced, close it and Cancel out of all the dialogs, don't OK any. That way your Start Menu will not change to Classic.

Hi platypus. Thank you for reminding me about the right forum for the topic.. I forgot I was in the XP forum. Anyway, I did use your advice but it didn't work. When I try to delete the folder from the Desktop that way, I still get the same message. Instead, I just cut and pasted the Accessories folder from the desktop to My Documents. At least it isnt on the desktop anymore. Thanks anyway.

shark, your Accessories folder should be in 'C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Start Menu\Programs'.
Is it there?
If you left click Start, All Programs, and then right click on Accessories and select properties, what location (path) is shown?
note: you can left click on the location entry and then hilight and copy the whole string
