Display
Today, i bought a dirt cheap computer at a garage sale, but when i hooked up my monitor to the computer, there was no display at all. The computer sounds like it is booting up fine. I tried 3 differnet monitors to the computer, but still no display. Is there a usb monitor available? or is adding a new video card cheaper? or could something else be wrong ?

It's safe to say you ruled out it being a monitor issue.
Do you know if this computer is using onboard graphics or a separate video card in a slot?
You could try a tester video card, but it depends what slot is in that computer like AGP or PCI-E or PCI?
Was there any beeping noises when starting up the computer?
There could be other issues with motherboard/ram/powersupply.
You take a chance buying cheap computers from garage sales.

It looks to me as though the computer isn't actually booting. You could try connecting a set of speakers to see if you have any startup sounds playing. I would also double check to see if the computer has both a video card and on-board video. If it has both, the on-board video is probably disabled, so you want to be sure the monitor is connected to the video card. Laugh if you want, but I've done this myself when I was rushing too much and spaced out.
Beyond this, there are all sorts of troubleshooting methods, but how much time, effort, and cash do you want to invest?

Good thing you pointed that out. I remember running into computers with both onboard and an added in video card. Been a long time. My memory ain't so great anymore.

You are Correct
When i bought the computer, i just plugged it up without looking at it real close. But sure enough, there are two video cards, i connected the monitor to the add-on video card, and the display came right on. Thanks to everybody for the help and advice.

Something is wrong with your VGA cable through which you are trying to connect the monitor but if you are using different VGA cables as well then check you VGA Slot behind your CPU. Garage sale computers usually give such problem.

This is getting tedious techbug. Please stop answering old threads with information that doesn't have anything to do with the question asked.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."
