Well, for starters TSST makes optical drives, not hard drives. Goodness knows, there are plenty of problems with them. The most common is that they simply fail very often. Surprising, given the parent companies. You might also want to look at problems with the filter drivers. That's still a common problem that occurs with all versions of Windows, including Win7 which is often mistaken for a driver issue.
You might want to look at this MS Knowledgebase article. Even though it refers to a problem with specific software, the solution works with most issues involving inaccessible CD/DVD drives; it's a fix that works with any filter driver issue.
Also, try booting from the optical drive. If you can't, the drive is defective. If I haven't adequately addressed your concerns, please respond with more specific information.
