Search Engine Optimization or Web Page Optimization is one of the most important parts of building and uploading a web site online. Its one thing to build a website and put it up on the net but quite another skill to get that page "out there" for people who will need it or use it.
These tips are only a brief of what has become an artform on the net today but they will help any budding web designer to gain in the rankings and gain more hits than from an unoptimized page. Articles available online for things like the 'ten top tips of web design' or even the 'top ten web design mistakes' will help people optimize pages for publication and maximum exposure. http://www.alistapart.com/articles/writeliving/ http://www.seo-uncovered.com/tricks.htm
Writing and Keyword Use For each page you are writing list somewhere the keywords that people will use when searching for your page. Also list keywords associated with your site. When writing the content and body of the page include all those words in the text. http://www.internet.computertechnica...om/writing.htm My very own effort completed for a uni assignment
There is a link (I have just forgotten it at the moment) to a page that if you input a word or place, the search results on that page will show you associated words and exactly what people have searched for over the past month.
Metatag the page with description and keywords, keeping the keywords to ONLY the main few words that identify the site and people will be searching for. For example a page called grandcanyon.htm about the grand canyon my keywords would be "grand, canyon" and thats it.
remember all the words in your body will be included in search results anyway so it is no use loading the meta keywords again. http://searchenginewatch.com/webmast...le.php/2167931 http://www.submitcorner.com/Guide/Meta/ http://www.webdeveloper.com/html/html_metatags.html (By Scott Clark..I wonder if he is OUR Scott Clark)
Linking Inbound links to your site from another is one way that google and other search engines rank sites, so the more "valuable" incoming links you have the better off your site will return.
Link farms were popular about 18 months ago to encourage links but google seems to have caught onto that and changed its algorythyms ..don't mind my spelling.........
The best thing to do is to exchange links with like minded sites. Another secret I use is to link to the oppositions site. For some reason and the answer will be available in SEO info pages, it works. Even if they do not link back to you. Do not call pages of links 'links.htm' call it 'resources.htm' or 'moreinformation.htm' http://www.google.com/webmasters/seo.html
Online MagazinesSubscribe to a good search engine optimisation online mag. Site pro is one that comes into your inbox with some good tips and tricks for SEO techniques. http://www.sitepronews.com/
Toolbar Download Google toolbar and turn on options for rankings and info. This will help you know exactly where you and your competition stands. http://toolbar.google.com
Another way to improve rank is to rss/xml your website with rss/xml feeds. Those feeds can then be submitted to a multitude of RSS/XML directories and searches.
Sorry, terryL and lindamartin123, but times have changed. Manipulating meta tags and the like may actually get you banned from Google search results these days. Just so you don't feel sad, I'm giving you 4 Necroposting Awards
