I have a guy in Miami and he has windows 98 on a Dell LS laptop and all his network stuff checks out he boots up and never get's the MS network Log on screen
as every one else does. The only way he can get it if he does a start and log off and then he get's the log on screen.

I haven't used Windows 98 in years but I think there's a setting in Tweak UI that lets you hide the auto-logon screen, therefore you can unhide it. See if it's in there...

There's Tweak UI..

check control panels for TweakUI, if it's there change the login automaticall settings.
Also in network control panel make sure that "primary network logon" has "client for microsoft networks" selected and NOT "windows logon".
