Question Win98SE + USB

Having a slight issue here. Whenever I enable the PCI->USB Controller, Windows freezes at the "Windows is shutting down" screen and doesn't complete the powerdown or restart.

From what I can tell, there are no conflicts with the controller (running IRQ 9). Initially, Windows detected and installed Intel drivers for the controller. I went into Device Manager and changed the drivers to the Standard PCI->USB Controller ones. This allowed the machine to shutdown properly one time. I then re-enabled the USB Root Hub and the system froze once again on the Shutdown screen. After that, even the Standard PCI->USB Controller drivers don't allow the machine to shutdown completely.

Any help/tips would be greatly appreciated here.

Thanks

Yeah, have all the updates from Mickeysoft site. Went ahead and threw WinME on it to see if it might be bad hardware, and everything worked fine. Noticed the device listed in Device Mgr on ME was different than the Device listed on 98. Wonder if this could be the issue. If so, anyone know where I can get 98 drivers for an Intel 82371 AB/EB PCI->USB Controller?

One last thing, it's not an option to keep WinME on the system. This system has been developed for a specific purpose and the software developed was spec'd for Win98. *I* personally don't think any issues would arise using ME over 98, but our developers don't want to do it....

You shouldn't need any drivers for that as they are built in to windows98 anyway. You could though try to update the INF files using one of the Intel inf updater utilities.
