I have had that problem too. The only thing that I found to resolve it was to reinstall windows. Someone else out here in cyberland might have a better solution but that is what I found.........

How to Manually Uninstall and Reinstall Microsoft Virtual Machine

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

    Microsoft Windows 98
    Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
    Microsoft Windows 95
Microsoft Windows NT Server version 4.0
    Microsoft virtual machine 1.0

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT: This article contains information about editing the registry. Before you edit the registry, make sure you understand how to restore it if a problem occurs. For information about how to do this, view the "Restoring the Registry" Help topic in Regedit.exe or the "Restoring a Registry Key" Help topic in Regedt32.exe.

    SUMMARY
This article describes how to manually uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Virtual Machine (VM).

    MORE INFORMATION
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT or Windows 2000, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

To manually remove and reinstall the VM components:

Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 /u msjava.dll, and then click OK.

Remove the following keys from the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Java VM
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Code Store Database\Global\Namespace\Java Packages
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\\DhModule
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed
    Components\{08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608500}
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\Internet Explorer\\Advanced
    Options\\JAVA_VM
Click Start, click Shut Down, and then click Restart in MS-DOS mode.

At the Windows prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command:

    cd %windir%
deltree java (press Y when prompted to delete the folder) rd /s java in Windows NT 4.0
    ren setdebug.exe setdebug.xxx
    ren clspack.exe clspack.xxx
    ren wjview.exe wjview.xxx
    ren jview.exe jview.xxx
    ren jautoexp.dat jautoexp.xxx
cd system or system32 for NT
    ren javaprxy.dll javaprxy.xxx
    ren javacypt.dll javacypt.xxx
    ren msjdbc10.dll msjdbc10.xxx
    ren vmhelper.dll vmhelper.xxx
    ren jdbgmgr.exe jdbgmgr.xxx
    ren javasup.vxd javasup.xxx
    ren javaee.dll javaee.xxx
    ren javart.dll javart.xxx
    ren msjava.dll msjava.xxx
    ren msawt.dll msawt.xxx
    ren jit.dll jit.xxx
    ren dx3j.dll dx3j.xxx
    ren javaperm.hlp javaperm.xxx
    ren javasec.hlp javasec.xxx
    cd..
    cd inf
    ren java.inf java.xxx
    exit

NOTE: The SDK for Java 4.0 contains an uninstaller.exe in the \bin directory that will automatically remove the Microsoft virtual machine.

NOTE: Your computer should restart and you may receive the following error message:
Cannot find a device file that may be needed to run Windows or a Windows application. The Windows registry or System.ini file refers to this device file, but the device file no longer exists. If you deleted this file on purpose, try uninstalling the associated application using it's uninstall or setup program.

If you still want to use the application associated with this device file, try reinstalling that application to replace the missing file.

    Javasup.vxd
    Press a key to continue
This error message is expected. Press a key to start Windows.

Download the Microsoft VM for Windows 95/Windows 98 and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 from the following Microsoft Web site:

    http://www.microsoft.com/java/vm/dl_vm40.htm

you could try IE's repair utility. Also, maybe update to a more recent version of IE, assuming that's what your using and you don't already have the most recent version. Hope this helps!
