    Red face Windows slow down

    Intel PII 350 128 mg ram 98 se the computer has slowed down to a craw. Gigbyte board ga-6bxc. rage II 16 mg video card. tryed everything I can think of to get it working correctly. Every task is delayed about 3 sec . Any help anyone. Thanks

    Check for viruses and ensure that you are not running out of Hard Disk space. Also worth doing is to clean the registry with one of the 3rd party reg cleaners, such as Norton's WinDoctor.

    Check for a heat problem (CPU, Power Supply), check for swap file settings, re-install Windows.

    Ok I have ran virus ck (clean) scandisk,defrag killed all startup programs on boot. system resource 90 % still could be better.New power supply 300w new cpu fan. slow on cold boot also. How can I see what loads on boot up . Thanks for your help guy's

    The simplest way in 98 is to go to Start===>Run and type msconfig Go to the startup tab and uncheck EVERYTHING....don't worry, you can add them all back in later.

    If it clear it up, add one item back in at a time, reboot and see if the problem returns.
    Keep repeating this until you track down the problem...this can be slow, but it works!

    Hi and thanks all I went to msconfig. and unchecked everyhing and loaded one at a time.Still have a little glitch but good for now
