Post Hmmm... wierd problem with the control panel

So I built a machine for my in laws and everything is working great. It has win98se. I was over there last night and I was checking to make sure everything was cool and it seems to be except for the control panel. When I go to Start > Settings > Control Panel it doesn't even seem to blink. No hourglass pointer or anything it just never brings up a window. Then I tried to right click on the desktop and go to properties to check some video aspects and same thing. No hourglass or anything. Already checked for viruses and it's all clean. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a corrupted registry. Try it in safe mode.

I'll try that when I go back there. That seems wierd as it has worked previously and this is a new install about 2 weeks old.

Is it using an Nvidia card?

Strange thing to ask, but a PC I was working on could only accept one specific set of drivers. No betas or more recent versions would correct the situation.

Display properties did not allow some options to be seen or modified, there was some network slowdown and network shares were inaccessible.

The card in question was an Nvidia Vanta (16 Mb TNT2) in a Compaq Deskpro 1GHz.
