Bus Master in Win 98

{Sorry for my English} I had Win95 installed on a 430TX motherboard, with two HD (Fujitsu & Samsung) recognised as "GENERYC DISK" and with a 1.5 Mb/s Transfer rate.. but then I installed the Intel PIIX Drivers for Bus Mastering, in that moment my Win95 recognized the EXACT Brand and model of my HD.. and the Transfer Rate "SPEED UP to 5 Mb/s"... But.. I upgraded to 98... there is not Intel PIIX (Bus Master) Drivers for 98, because it supossed that it's integrated with system.. (DMA check in Disk properties)... but since that... My HD are GENERIC TYPE again, and the SPEED are 1 Mb/s again... no matter the HD DMA mark is checked or unchecked.. is the same... WHY?????

i think that you will find that the microsoft/intel drivers in win98 can only do DMA transfers NOT UDMA!
I had the same problem and I now use the TYAN UDMA drivers which according to winbench98 and sandra gave me a 18% increase in speed.I have used them for 5 months on a 440bx chipset with NO lockups or data loss.
This is just my experience and if you try them it is at your risk......you must of course have a UDMA hard drive and cd drive for them to work.
