msnp.32.dll missing file

before the active desktop comes up i recieve a system ini device file no longer exsists c:\vredir.vxd
unable to the dynamic link library msnp.32.dll
some or all of the feature is not available:microsoft network
this also causes the error message ....illegal operation will be shut down.then the computer crashes & we have to reactivate the desktop. And possibly causes the screen to freeze.
I don't want to have to reformat everything. Can anyone offer suggestions?
Desperate for help.Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Windrivers annamarie.

The easiest way to sort this problem is to get your windows 98 CD, put it in the cd drive, then click start, then run, type in
SFC
and click run
You will get a window up and you want to scan for altered files - when it finds files missing or wrong, it will prompt you... follow the instructions to put the files back automatically. here is the microsoft SFC instructions

Some pcs were supplied without a 98 cd. Have a look in windows explorer under C:\windows\options\cabs or do a search for *.cab in my computer. more instructions here

Let us know how you get on.
