    Post No video!

This is weird, but then what isn't on a computer! LOL

Have an ACER Aspire, 233 CPU, 96 mg Ram, 2 HD's, CDrom, CDRW, Win98SE

System was working fine. I just added the CDRW, in the process I noticed that both the HD's were on the same IDE (1), and the CD was on IDE (2), In the past I have been told that you SHOULD NOT hook up 2 CD's on the same IDE, that sometimes the information can get comfused between the 2 CD's. Well when I configured the system like this, IDE (1) Master HD, Slave CD, IDE (2) Master CDRW, Slave HD. But I lost the on board Video, tryed to install a PCI Video card with still no luck in getting video.

I disconnected everything, and I get the video Back!

So I guess my question is it alright to runn both HD'S on the same IDE and then Both CD's on the 2nd IDE.

    Thanks in advance.

You mean to say that if you change the master slave arrangement between the two IDE channels, then the computer powers up? Perhaps your power supply is maxed out.

It depends. Some combinations of hardware are pickier than others about how they are hooked up to the IDE chain. Myself for example, on the primary channel I have a UDMA2 10GB HD as master and an HP CDRW as slave. On the secondary channel, I have a Hitachi CD-ROM as master and a ZIP100 drive as slave. I hooked it up this way since the ZIP100 is a mode 0 device and would bog down the CDRW if I put it on the same channel. Not one coaster yet with that setup. Other people say my setup would make a perfect coaster factory but I'd have to disagree. So the best advice I can give you is to try it and see.

But I think your power supply is the real problem.

I agree with mac on the Power issue, I am kind of in the same boat, I am really pushing My PSU with 3 hard drives.
    as for IDE combinations.
I've got two hard drives on one and a cdrom and hard drive on the other. with no problems.
