[RESOLVED] Win98 hanging on shutdown screen
I just recently reinstalled Win98 on my computer and everything works flawlessly except when I go to shutdown or restart, the Windows shutdown screen appears and my computer hangs.
I've tried reformatting, repositioning PCI devices, updating all of my drivers, doing every windowsupdate.com update and I can't figure out what is going on.
Anyone have any ideas?

Try removing one card at a time until you find which one is stopping the shutdown.

Is the WIN98 you are trying to load an SE ? It is reported in MS knowledge base that SE has shutdown problems. I had experienced this. MS has a fix called WIN98 SE shutdown supplement. It has a good article & a patch. Do use it. I found my problem solved.
Please note they mention this problem to be hardware dependent.
Do keep posted.

You probably have a networkcard installed. This causes the problem. Especially the combination W98/3Com. If you have more than 8 drives mapped in a network you will have the same problem. There are patches for this on the Microsoft site knowledge base. Find the patches 4756*8.exe, 260067*8.exe and 243199*8.exe. The * stands for the different language you might wanna have. In my case DUT. I used them and it did solve the problem. Also in your anti-virus program disable the option Scanning A: at shutdown. This also causes problems often. Good luck.
