I have noticed 99.9 % of my shut down problems come from computers with Network cards in them. I standardized them to 3Com 3c905B cards and loaded TweakUI. In TweakUI under Paranoia I select it to Clear Document History and Clear Internet Explorer History at logon. That seemed to help most of my shut down issues. Except for about 5 or 6 out of 250+ computers. Hope this helps.

I noticed that it has a lot to do with the dispaly adapter driver.
