.vxd files missing after trying to fix usb problem
Just my luck-my mate asked me to install his new usb printer-he had no usb drivers on his system-so i downloaded a program called oemusb from windrivers, put this onto his computer and restarted but now i have a message at startup saying the following files are missing or the date is wrong:-(rough recollection of message)
vmm.vxd
shell.vxd
vtd.vxd
vxdldr.vxd
vpicd.vxd
or vwin32.vxd
the pc won't boot windows-not even in safe mode !?!
his system is using a 200mhz pentium pro with 64mb ram and 2gb hd.
any help would be appreciated as he now thinks i've knackered his pc !?!?!?!

Can't even boot into safe mode, I'd boot to a command prompt and rerun Win98 setup.

Interestingly enough, I'm posting this on a PC that I had to reinstall 95c on this morning because of vxd problems. Your best bet is to hit f8 during boot to get to command prompt only. From there use your trusty win98 boot disk to install from CD. I really think that's the only way to recover from vxd trouble. At least it's not a format job.
