Unhappy Win 98 Problem w/ Network Cards

A fellow at work said that he read that Windows 98 SE has problems with network cards. (He didn't keep the article) When connected to our network, certain laptops and desktops don't want to go thru the shutdown. Not to mention there have been various lockups and spontaneous shutdowns. Has anyone heard of conflicts with certain network cards? I'm not a tech but I would appreciate any help or insight.

Not network card issues, but shutdown issues.
